A devastating accident unfolded in the Ganga River within the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. A boat, overloaded with passengers, capsized, leading to a tragic loss of life. The boat carried a total of 31 individuals. Four people were submerged in the accident, one of whom was found dead, while three remain missing. Twenty-seven passengers managed to survive, battling the forceful currents of the Ganga to reach safety. The incident took place in the Gadai Diara area, under the jurisdiction of the Ganga River police station. Details indicate that around 17 tribal youths from a village near the Binduvasini temple and a nearby mountain in the Barharwa block, approximately 70 kilometers from the Sahibganj district headquarters, had gone to catch rats. They used a boat from Maharajpur Ganga Ghat to cross the Ganga River. On their return journey, additional locals also boarded the same boat, leading to an excessive number of passengers on board. The boat became unstable amidst the powerful waves, overturning in the Ganga’s current. Chaos erupted as the boat capsized. Some courageous individuals present at the scene attempted to rescue the drowning passengers, but their efforts were in vain. One of the four drowned youths was recovered, but he had already died. The other three are still missing, with local divers and the administration actively involved in the search.
