Dhanbad: Wasseypur’s infamous gangster, Fahim Khan, is on the cusp of regaining his freedom after spending approximately 16 years in prison. The Jharkhand High Court issued a directive for his release this past Friday, leading to an outpouring of joy among his family members on Saturday.
This Friday proved to be a turning point for Fahim Khan, as the Jharkhand High Court’s order paved the way for his eventual release from incarceration. The news brought immense happiness to his family, with his son, Iqbal Khan, celebrating by sharing sweets and expressing their gratitude to the judiciary for its eventual justice. He also commended the Dhanbad police for their service to the community.
In a message to younger generations, Iqbal Khan cautioned against the allure of crime, highlighting its inherent negative repercussions. He urged them to choose a path of mainstream societal participation. Fahim Khan’s lawyer, Shahbaz Salam, confirmed that a petition was filed on November 29, 2024, seeking his client’s liberation. The petition highlighted Khan’s advanced age and medical conditions as grounds for his early release.
The court had previously mandated the formation of a review board by the state government to scrutinize the case. The lawyer emphasized that Fahim Khan is over 75 years old and has endured imprisonment for upwards of two decades. The court’s decision to grant release was based on these significant factors, including his age and the prolonged period of his sentence. Fahim Khan was convicted in connection with the 1989 murder of Sagir and has been incarcerated since 2009. The court’s order has brought considerable relief and happiness to his family and supporters.
