
Vote counting for the Ghatsila Assembly seat by-election in East Singhbhum is in its final phase, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Chandra Soren is firmly in the lead. Garnering 89,251 votes after the 17th round, Soren is set to secure victory, leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Babulal Soren behind. The JMM party headquarters is abuzz with celebratory activities as the results become clear. Babulal Soren has managed to secure 56,445 votes, while Ramdas Murmu of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha holds the third position with 11,235 votes. The election has seen a poor showing from independent candidates and parties with minimal presence. Many of these candidates failed to reach even a thousand votes. Even the NOTA option secured 2,458 votes, indicating a preference over several listed contenders.
