The cremation of former Jharkhand Chief Minister, the late Shibu Soren, took place on Tuesday with full honors in Nemra, his ancestral village in the Gola block of Ramgarh district. The event was attended by a large number of his followers and well-wishers.
News of the last rites of Shibu Soren, affectionately known as Guruji, brought people to Nemra from Tuesday morning. The district administration had set up barricades about seven kilometers before the village, at Lukaiyatand. Arrangements including a helipad and vehicles were made for VIPs. The route, managed by the district administration, was accessible only to VIPs. In contrast, supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Shibu Soren chose to walk the seven-kilometer distance to pay their respects.
Common people reached Nemra on foot from Lukaiyatand. The paths were congested. The route to the crematorium, prepared by the district administration, was muddy. The body was carried over planks laid across muddy fields. With no access, the general public used footpaths through the fields. Supporters of Shibu Soren reached the crematorium via different footpaths. Even when it started raining, and some took shelter under tents, the loyal supporters of Shibu Soren stood their ground. They stood in the rain for around half an hour and eventually offered their final respects to their leader before departing.
