Concerns about prison security have resurfaced in Jharkhand following the escape of three convicted prisoners from the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh. The breakout, confirmed on Wednesday, has set off a wide-ranging search operation involving multiple police and security agencies. According to Jail Superintendent Chandrashekhar Suman, initial information suggests the escaped individuals are all from the Dhanbad district. Details about the fugitives are being rapidly shared to aid in their swift recapture.
The escape came to light during a routine headcount of inmates. A quick internal search within the prison complex failed to locate the missing prisoners, prompting prison officials to alert the wider law enforcement network. A high alert has been issued across Hazaribagh and surrounding districts, with perimeter security tightened and search parties dispatched to potential hideouts. The swift response aims to prevent the convicts from disappearing completely.
To aid in the capture, police units in neighboring states have also been alerted, and intensified surveillance is in place. The escape is notable because JP Jail is designated as a high-security facility, boasting a robust security framework, including continuous CCTV surveillance and armed guard presence. This prison holds individuals convicted of severe offenses, including members of extremist groups. The fact that this escape occurred despite recent security enhancements and personnel actions highlights a critical vulnerability that authorities are now urgently addressing.
