A horrific incident from the Simdega district of Jharkhand has brought to light a case of a woman setting her husband on fire. Manoj Singh, a resident of Ganjhu Toli in the Bano block’s Genmer Panchayat, was allegedly attacked by his wife, Puja Devi, who poured petrol on him and ignited it. The victim sustained severe burns and is currently undergoing treatment at the IGH Hospital in Rourkela.
Following the incident, law enforcement from Girda OP arrived at the scene and took Puja Devi into custody. The investigation is ongoing. According to local sources, Manoj and Puja were married approximately four months ago. The couple had a dispute on Friday over a domestic issue. After the argument, Manoj left the house and sat a short distance away.
His wife is reported to have approached him while he was outside, pouring petrol over him before setting him on fire. The suddenness of the attack left Manoj with severe burns before he could react. Local residents and family members extinguished the fire and provided initial medical attention. He was then moved to the Rourkela hospital, where his condition is described as critical.
Police are investigating the incident and are yet to clarify the reason behind the wife’s actions. The case has generated significant discussion in the local community.
A similar incident occurred a few months ago in the Gumla district of Jharkhand where a woman attacked her husband with an axe, and subsequently set him on fire after a dispute related to cooking. The couple’s 10-month-old child also sustained injuries in the fire.
