
A tragic incident occurred on the Jharkhand-Odisha border on Saturday when an IED blast during an anti-Naxal operation claimed the life of a CRPF officer. The blast occurred around 9:30 AM in a forested area near the border. Assistant Sub Inspector Satyavan Kumar Singh of the CRPF 134th Battalion sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
This incident followed a search operation conducted by a joint team of security forces on Friday in the Bolang police station area of Rourkela district, Odisha, which borders Jharkhand. The IED explosion resulted in the critical injury of ASI Satyavan Kumar, who was later taken to a hospital in Rourkela, where he passed away.
ASI Satyavan Kumar Singh, originally from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, was a member of the 134th Battalion of the CRPF. He was honored with full state honors at the CRPF 133rd Battalion headquarters in Dhurwa, Ranchi, on Saturday. Following the attack, security forces have increased security and intensified search operations in the area.
In a previous incident in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, Constable Sunil Dhan of the Jharkhand Jaguar was killed on April 12, 2025, due to an IED blast during an encounter with Naxals. Constable Dhan was from Khunti district, Jharkhand. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar, DGP Anurag Gupta, and senior police officers paid their respects at the Jharkhand Jaguar headquarters in Tender Gram, Ranchi.
