A devastating event in the Garhwa district of Jharkhand claimed the lives of four people, including three brothers, who died from suffocation inside a septic tank. The local police responded to the incident and took the bodies into custody for post-mortem examination.
The incident occurred at the home of Moti Chaudhary in Nawada village, under the Garhwa police station area. A new septic tank was being constructed at the property as part of ongoing construction work. Maltu Ram, a resident of the same village, first entered the tank to remove the framework.
After Maltu Ram failed to emerge from the tank for a considerable amount of time, the family members outside became worried. Raju Shekhar Chaudhary, Moti Chaudhary’s eldest son, entered the septic tank to check on Maltu Ram. However, he also did not come out. His brothers, Ajay Chaudhary and Chandrashekhar Chaudhary, then entered the tank one after another, tragically leading to their deaths due to suffocation.
The news of the deaths of the four individuals, including the three brothers, caused widespread alarm throughout the village. The Garhwa police station was immediately notified. With great difficulty, villagers managed to pull all four individuals out of the septic tank and transport them to a hospital. However, it was too late; doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Garhwa District SDO Sanjay Kumar, SDPO Neeraj Kumar, and the Station In-charge, along with numerous other officials, arrived at the hospital to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths were caused by poisonous gases accumulating inside the septic tank. The police administration is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
