
Ulihatu, the sacred birthplace of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda, was the focal point of statewide celebrations on Saturday, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the leader and the 25th year of Jharkhand’s establishment. The village resonated with joyous chants dedicated to ‘Dharti Aba’. A large gathering, comprising spiritual followers, local residents, elected officials, and visitors from various parts of India, offered tributes at Birsa Munda’s statue.
Distinguished guests at the governmental event included Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister Jual Oram, MP Kalicharan Munda, former Union Minister Arjun Munda, and several state legislators, alongside the Chief Secretary.
Governor Radhakrishnan, in his address at the Birsa Munda Complex, lauded the rich historical legacy of tribal communities and their pivotal role in India’s independence movement. He called for the creation of a magnificent statue of Birsa Munda in Ulihatu and announced plans to transform the village into a model tourism hub. He also advocated for the preservation of local heritage and languages.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren declared Jharkhand a land built on the bravery and sacrifices of its people, emphasizing the commitment to realize their dreams. He asserted that his government is actively engaged in understanding the grassroots realities and addressing the needs of all citizens by reaching out to every village. Soren highlighted the government’s focus on the comprehensive development of tribal and indigenous communities, making them central to its progress agenda. He noted a significant portion of state funds being directed towards social welfare, particularly for women and marginalized groups. Describing his administration as one deeply connected to the villages, he pledged to ensure development benefits reach every family. With Jharkhand entering its 25th year, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in the state’s youth to propel its growth and establish it as a national leader.
Soren acknowledged past challenges in accessing basic amenities like healthcare and education and outlined the government’s initiatives to strengthen these sectors and empower women. He also revealed upcoming strategic plans to bolster the state’s potential in sports, tourism, employment, and infrastructure. The celebration concluded with warm wishes for Jharkhand’s Foundation Day and profound respect for Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
