In a tragic event at the CCL Karma Project in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, four people lost their lives and six others were injured due to a coal mine collapse. The accident happened when villagers were involved in illegal mining activities within the Karma Project of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in Kuju. A section of the coal seam caved in unexpectedly, burying the miners.
According to initial reports, the deceased have been identified as Imtiyaz, Rameswar Manjhi, Wakil Karmali, and Nirmal Munda. Villagers had entered the mine with the intention of stealing coal, which led to the disaster.
The local community is directing blame towards the CCL management, accusing them of negligence. They point out the absence of secure fencing or boundary walls around the mine, allowing easy entry. They are also claiming violations of the safety regulations set by DGMS (Directorate General of Mines Safety).
Following the incident, rescue operations are in progress. Authorities are using JCB machines to clear the debris and find any survivors who might still be trapped. There are concerns that more villagers may still be stuck in the collapsed mine.
