An impending cold wave is set to affect 13 districts in Jharkhand, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert on Tuesday. Residents in these areas should prepare for significantly colder temperatures and associated conditions. The alert specifically names western districts such as Palamu, Garhwa, Latehar, and Chatra, alongside central Jharkhand’s Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Khunti, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Koderma, and Dhanbad. The IMD has also projected the possibility of ‘cold day’ occurrences in the northwestern and adjoining northern central parts of the state. Visibility is expected to be reduced due to dense fog, particularly in the northern regions during early mornings and evenings. On Tuesday morning, Ranchi and its surroundings experienced crisp, clear weather accompanied by severe chill, while fog was a common sight in other parts of the state during the night and early dawn, also affecting humid areas around Ranchi.
The state’s temperature fluctuations over the past 24 hours saw Chaibasa record the highest temperature at 26.8°C, while Gumla recorded the lowest at 2.6°C. Tuesday’s detailed temperatures include Ranchi: 24.3°C (max) / 5.4°C (min); Jamshedpur: 23.4°C (max) / 8.6°C (min); Daltonganj: 16°C (max) / 5°C (min); Bokaro: 21.6°C (max) / 7.1°C (min); Chaibasa: 26.8°C (max) / 9.2°C (min); Khunti: 25.5°C (max) / 3.7°C (min); Lohardaga: 23.4°C (max) / 6°C (min); Latehar: 22.5°C (max) / 4.6°C (min); and Seraikela: 24.7°C (max) / 7.1°C (min).
