A constable in Jharkhand is under investigation after a woman filed a complaint alleging sexual exploitation under the guise of marriage. The incident involves a constable working at the wireless office in Simdega district, and a student from Palamu district.
The complainant alleges that she and the constable, Ramesh Bharti, became acquainted via Instagram in 2023. The relationship developed into a more intimate one. The complaint states that Bharti used the promise of marriage to initiate physical relations with the woman in his flat, located in the Pundag OP area of Ranchi.
When the woman requested marriage, the constable refused and subsequently assaulted her. He then blocked her phone number to avoid further contact. The woman traveled to Simdega in June to confront him, but the constable assaulted her at a bus stand. She delayed reporting the incidents because of her father’s poor health. The complainant has now formally filed a written complaint with the Ranchi Mahila Thana, seeking justice for the sexual exploitation and the broken promise of marriage.
The police are planning to take the accused constable into custody based on the complaint to investigate the matter thoroughly. They will question the constable for details.
