The CBI court has delivered its verdict in the 15-year-old Jharkhand land scam, sentencing former minister Enos Ekka and his wife Menon Ekka. The court found them guilty of exploiting their positions and breaching the CNT Act to illegally purchase tribal land. Enos Ekka and his wife each received a seven-year prison sentence along with substantial fines. The case involved the fraudulent acquisition of tribal land using fake addresses and with the complicity of other government officials. Several other individuals, including the then LRDC of Ranchi, Kartik Kumar Prabhat, were also convicted and sentenced. The charges against Enos Ekka stemmed from accusations that he misused his authority as a minister to purchase tribal land worth over ₹1.18 crore. The CBI filed a charge sheet in December 2012 after completing its investigation, following directives from the Jharkhand High Court.
