A perplexing situation unfolded in Gumla, Jharkhand, where a husband, Rinku Sahu, facilitated the marriage of his wife to her lover after catching her trying to leave the house during the night. The couple’s relationship, based on love, trust, and respect, was tested severely by the involvement of a third party. Rinku, residing in the Sisai block, was already aware of his wife, Urmila Kumari’s, affair and had made multiple attempts to salvage their marriage, considering their three-year-old daughter. His efforts, however, were unsuccessful, as Urmila was determined to leave.
One night, Urmila tried to sneak out, but Rinku spotted her. He raised an alarm and gathered the entire village. In front of the villagers, he had her marry her lover and then sent them away.
Rinku and Urmila had been married for about five years and had a daughter. Their marital life appeared stable until Avinash Kumar, from Gaya district in Bihar, entered their lives. Avinash, who worked as a driver, and Urmila grew closer, starting secret meetings. When Rinku learned of his wife’s relationship with Avinash, he was devastated.
Despite Rinku’s attempts to reason with her and the efforts of her parents, Urmila remained committed to being with her lover. She even planned to take valuable possessions and money and run away with Avinash. However, on Tuesday, when she tried to leave, Rinku caught her. He alerted the villagers, and a village council was held. Angered by his wife’s actions, Rinku declared the end of their relationship and then had the lover apply sindoor to her forehead, thereby formalizing the marriage, and sent them away. This unusual act of a husband marrying his wife to her lover has become a talking point in the area.
