A grave accusation has been made by the opposition in Jharkhand, alleging that the state government is actively creating new crimes as a smokescreen for its complicity in existing illegal activities. Babu Lal Marandi, the BJP state president and Leader of the Opposition, asserted that fabricating crimes to hide wrongdoing has become a systemic issue within Jharkhand’s governance. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigations into the powerful coal syndicate in Dhanbad have exposed unsettling truths. Shockingly, it is reported that certain ‘top police brass,’ benefiting financially from the illegal coal trade, have issued ‘targets’ to their own foot soldiers within the mafia to ‘permanently neutralize’ them. This alleged plot is designed to prevent key individuals from providing testimony to the ED and thus obstruct the investigation. Reports suggest a chilling conspiracy to murder individuals being interrogated by the ED, ensuring that incriminating facts remain concealed. The state has a history of staged encounters where evidence was allegedly ‘eliminated’ rather than criminals being apprehended. The opposition recalled a former DGP accused of taking ‘supari’ for encounters and amassing corrupt wealth to an extent that even ruling party members condemned him for breaking all corruption records. The ED must proceed with utmost caution, as the state’s reality is that truth-tellers are suppressed, while those who hide it prosper. When the ruling powers, the administrative system, and criminal syndicates operate in unison, the subversion of justice is virtually assured.
