A major train accident occurred in Chandil, Jharkhand, involving a collision between two goods trains. The incident happened early Friday morning near Chandil railway station within the Adra railway division. The collision was severe, leading to the derailment of numerous coaches and extensive damage to the locomotives.
The collision has caused the complete suspension of rail traffic on both up and down lines due to debris on the tracks. Initial investigations are focusing on a possible technical fault within the signaling system.
One goods train was en route from Tatanagar to Bokaro, while the other was traveling from Bokaro to Tatanagar. Railway authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Local reports indicate that a goods train traveling from Tatanagar to Purulia derailed after passing the Chandil station. The derailed coaches came to rest on the opposing track.
A second goods train, traveling in the opposite direction, subsequently collided with the derailed coaches, causing it to also derail. The accident took place between the Pitki railway gate and Chandil station.
As a result of the accident, all train services on the Chandil-Tatanagar and Chandil-Bokaro routes have been cancelled. Several trains are facing cancellations, diversions, or short terminations.
It is estimated that it will take at least 24 hours to fully restore the track and resume normal operations. Senior railway officials are present at the site to oversee the situation, and relief and repair work is underway.
