Continuous heavy rainfall in Jharkhand has caused a critical situation in the Gumla district, where a bridge over the Konsa River has collapsed. The collapse, which occurred after more than two days of intense rain, has resulted in the disruption of transportation and cut off communication with 12 villages. The authorities have responded by setting up barricades to ensure the safety of the public. Before the collapse, the bridge was a vital route for residents to reach the Sisai block for their daily activities. The bridge, built at the cost of 3 crore rupees in 2010, was approximately 200 feet in length. This incident follows a similar occurrence in June in Khunti district, raising concerns about the infrastructure’s resilience to heavy rainfall and the need for improvements in construction quality and maintenance.
