The by-election for the Ghatsila Assembly seat in East Singhbhum is heading towards a decisive conclusion, with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Chandra Soren extending a significant lead. At the close of the 17th round of counting, Soren has accumulated 89,251 votes, putting him in a strong winning position. He is comfortably ahead of his closest rival, BJP’s Babu Lal Soren, who has managed 56,445 votes. The prevailing sentiment is that JMM is on the verge of victory, leading to celebrations within the party ranks. Ramdas Murmu from the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha is currently in third place with 11,235 votes. The majority of other candidates, including independent hopefuls and representatives from smaller parties, have experienced a very poor electoral performance. Dr. Shrilal Kisku, an independent, received 1,341 votes, while Panchanan Soren of the Bharat Adivasi Party obtained 901 votes. The NOTA option registered 2,458 votes, outperforming several candidates. The JMM’s strong performance in Ghatsila highlights their significant electoral strength in the constituency.
