Continuous heavy rainfall since Friday has wreaked havoc in West Singhbhum. The approach road of the culvert on the Kankuwa River, which is situated on the critical Jagannathpur-Jaintgarh main road, has been completely washed away, effectively blocking all traffic on the route. This has resulted in substantial hardship for the local community. Former MP Geeta Koda visited the site on Sunday to assess the situation firsthand. She spoke with the local residents to understand their grievances and offered assurances of quick redressal. During her inspection, she instructed PWD officials to start repairing the culvert immediately and to establish a temporary alternative route to ensure public accessibility. Geeta Koda stressed that the well-being of the public must be the primary concern. She further noted that the ongoing rains have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, and schools throughout the district, and several houses of impoverished residents in rural areas have also been destroyed. BJP Jagannathpur Mandal President Rai Bhumij, Rohit Kumhar, Dayanidhi Pradhan, Ghanshyam Das, Sanjeev Kumhar, along with many other locals, were present during the inspection. The former MP has requested the district administration to promptly address the situation by repairing all damaged roads and bridges, providing compensation to affected families, linking them to relevant social security schemes, and repairing any road defects to prevent future accidents.
