Ranchi’s airport vicinity is set for a comprehensive upgrade, mirroring the standards of metropolitan areas, with a financial commitment of Rs 45.3 crore. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, aims to transform the Airport Road, Hinu Chowk, and Birsa Chowk. Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar has given the green light to five projects integral to this development. Sunil Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, has directed JUIDCO to promptly issue tenders to initiate the project’s implementation. The primary objective is to modernize and beautify the airport area, offering a welcoming experience for visitors. The project’s budget includes: Rs 10.42 crore for reinforcing the airport to Hinu Chowk road, Rs 14.64 crore for landscaping and decorative lighting, Rs 7.50 crore for renovating the Hinu to Birsa Chowk road, Rs 9.03 crore for landscaping enhancements, and Rs 3.42 crore allocated for the development of Hinu Chowk and its roundabout. The Airport to Hinu Chowk stretch will be expanded into a six-lane thoroughfare, incorporating essential infrastructure such as footpaths, cycling paths, smart streetlights, and LED illumination. The design will also integrate tribal art and culture through artwork, along with stone sculptures, Jharkhand-inspired archways, and extensive landscaping. The Hinu Chowk to Birsa Chowk route will similarly undergo renovation, with the construction of a six-lane road, tree-lined dividers, and provisions for cycle paths and pedestrian walkways. The project will also introduce modern streetlights, LED fixtures, and public conveniences like restrooms. Hinu Chowk will be modernized, featuring enhancements to the Karpuri Thakur statue and the installation of statues honoring Jharkhand’s freedom fighters. The roundabout at Hinu Chowk will be enlarged and adorned with modern lighting and lush landscaping.
