The Jharkhand government is set to relocate 780 families from seven villages in the Palamu division. These families will receive Rs 15 lakh each, along with an acre of land, to facilitate their resettlement. This decision, part of the Hemant Soren government’s plan, aims to provide better living conditions for the displaced families. The Mandal Dam project, which necessitates this relocation, has a long history, with initial construction beginning in the 1970s. The project faced delays due to various factors, including Naxalite activities. Now, with the rehabilitation plan approved, the government aims to complete the project, which will provide irrigation to drought-prone areas in Bihar. The cabinet also addressed other significant matters, including the formation of a committee to assess the Saranda forest area for potential wildlife sanctuary status and the establishment of NDPS police stations in five districts to combat drug-related crimes.
