Residents of Mango faced an acute water shortage on Sunday, coinciding with major festivals, leading to widespread discontent. Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai launched an immediate investigation, visiting the Mango drinking water project’s intake well and a critical water reservoir. His inquiry concluded that the disruption was due to the negligence of project officials and the contractor responsible for its operation. Rai announced his intention to submit a formal complaint against the Executive Engineer of the drinking water department, seeking disciplinary action for their failure to ensure consistent service, especially during peak demand periods. He also plans to recommend the contractor be blacklisted. At the intake well, Rai observed significant silt accumulation, suggesting a lack of essential maintenance. An order was issued to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Nagar Nigam for immediate cleaning, which subsequently improved water flow. Further examination at the Prithvi Park water tank revealed that the contractor was supplying water only intermittently, 2-3 days a week, a situation exacerbated by perceived favoritism in water distribution from the treatment plant. Some areas were receiving preferential treatment, while others, like Mango, were experiencing cuts during critical times.
