Giridih Police have achieved a major success by arresting three highly skilled cybercriminals who had built considerable wealth through extensive online fraud operations. The arrested individuals are Khurshid Ansari from Dharleto village (Gandey police station area), Alamgir Ansari of Chetnari (Deoghar), and Md. Sharafat Ansari from Jhilua (Deoghar district). The police confiscated essential tools of their trade: 8 mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, two motorcycles, two ATM cards, an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a driving license. The details of this significant bust were shared by Giridih SP Dr. Vimal Kumar.
The operation commenced after receiving credible information through the ‘Pratibimb’ portal about cyber fraud incidents occurring in the vicinity of Telkhari forest, near Kachhel village. A dedicated cybercrime investigation team was formed, led by Cyber DSP Abid Khan, which subsequently executed a successful raid and apprehended the three suspects.
In their confessions, the arrested cybercriminals detailed their methods. They explained how they manipulated Google search results to display their fake contact numbers, posing as customer support for various services. They also impersonated officials from Airtel Payment Bank and distributed harmful APK file links designed to steal financial information from bank wallets. The SP added that these fraudsters were not just active themselves but also supplied crucial resources like fake ATM cards and SIM cards to other criminals engaged in cyber fraud.
SP Dr. Vimal Kumar further revealed that the apprehended criminals are wanted in several states. Sharafat Ansari has a documented history of cybercrime, including a past imprisonment in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and has faced online complaints in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. His illegal earnings are estimated to be upwards of ₹60 lakh, and he owns a Mahindra XUV. Alamgir Ansari is also reported to have amassed over ₹25 lakh through his participation in these fraudulent schemes.
The Giridih police have strongly reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating cybercrime from the district. This ongoing campaign will continue until all cyber threat actors are brought to justice. The team involved in this successful operation included Cyber DSP Abid Khan, Cyber Police Station in-charge Rameshwar Bhagat, Inspectors Gunjan Kumar and Ram Pravesh Yadav, along with police officers Mukhiyar, Amarnath Prasad, and Sandeep Kumar Verma.
