Dr. Surendra Singh, widely known as the ‘God of the Poor’ in Palamu, has passed away, leaving behind a profound void in the hearts of countless individuals he served. His career was a testament to selfless service, marked by an incredibly low consultation fee of just ₹5. This made healthcare accessible to even the most impoverished, a stark contrast to the financial barriers many face today. Dr. Singh’s clinic was a beacon of hope, open 24 hours a day, where patients were treated with dignity and respect, free from the fear of exploitation. He was known for his integrity, never resorting to unnecessary tests or deceptive practices. His commitment extended across several areas, including Haidernagar, Ramna, and Nagar Untari, where he dedicated years of service. Even after moving to Daltonganj and associating with a private hospital, he steadfastly advocated for his ₹5 fee, eventually compromising at ₹50 due to hospital demands. Dr. Singh, who came from a simple family, understood the deep-seated pain of poverty firsthand. His life was a reflection of his values: simplicity, empathy, and an unwavering dedication to healing. He truly embodied the benevolent spirit often attributed to divine healers.
