The Saraikela region of Jharkhand is witnessing a unique and controversial situation involving a husband, wife, and her boyfriend. A local panchayat has made a decision that is raising eyebrows. In the presence of the husband, the wife was instructed to leave with her boyfriend. As part of the judgment, the boyfriend was also made to pay a fine.
The incident unfolded in Palashdih village under the RIT police station’s jurisdiction. The boyfriend, along with another man, were caught by the villagers while visiting the married woman. A panchayat meeting was then organized. The panchayat decided that the woman would be sent with her boyfriend, with the husband present. The villagers objected to police intervention.
A young man from Chandil, who is from the Chilgu Panchayat, and his friend were visiting the woman in Palashdih on Monday night. When they tried to take her away, the villagers confronted them. The boyfriend and his friend were assaulted and later detained, along with the woman.
Upon receiving information, SDPO Sameer Kumar Savaiya and RIT police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh and their team arrived at the scene. They attempted to mediate, but the villagers insisted on handling the matter themselves, citing it as a social matter. The police withdrew due to the villagers’ resistance, though they stayed on the scene to avoid further issues.
Under social customs, a village assembly meeting was held. The panchayats from the woman’s marital and parental sides, and the boyfriend’s village, came together. The decision, reached after a day-long meeting, surprised the husband. The woman was sent with her boyfriend, and a fine of one lakh rupees was imposed on the boyfriend. A divorce was finalized, and the woman left with her boyfriend. The case is now a major talking point.
