A devastating event occurred in Kolabani village, part of the Punnasa Tola area within the Laylam Panchayat, located in the Bodaam block of the Purvi Singhbhum district. A raw dwelling belonging to a poor tribal family collapsed abruptly on Sunday morning. The inhabitants were able to escape the collapsing structure, avoiding any serious injuries. However, the family is now homeless and has suffered a considerable loss.
The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 9 a.m. The raw, tiled house of Vijay Hansda’s family crumbled due to the impact of heavy rainfall. The house, built from mud and tiles, had become vulnerable because of the persistent rain. When the collapse began, family members were inside the home, but they were able to escape. Soon after, the walls and roof were completely destroyed.
Vijay Hansda, the affected homeowner, reported that the family’s bullocks were trapped under the debris. Villagers, upon being notified, immediately rushed to the scene and, after a strenuous effort, rescued the animals. However, essential supplies such as food, clothing, and utensils were buried under the rubble.
Vijay Hansda stated that the house represented their entire life savings and has now been completely destroyed. The family is now without shelter. They are left with no choice but to live in the open.
The affected family has requested immediate relief and compensation from the administration. The local villagers are also requesting the district administration to provide housing and other necessary aid so that the family can restart their lives.
