A high-risk cardiac procedure has resulted in a life-saving recovery for a 54-year-old patient at Paras HEC Hospital in Ranchi. The patient, who has diabetes, was rushed to the hospital experiencing a medical emergency characterized by severe breathlessness, chest pain, and dangerously low blood pressure. Critical care was immediately administered, including ventilation and admission to the CCU with vital life support.
Further examination revealed a critical situation concerning the patient’s coronary arteries. Although stents had been placed in all three arteries just two months prior, a recent angiogram showed that two of these stents were almost entirely blocked (99%). The remaining stent had a 40-50% blockage, and a severe 60-70% blockage was detected in the Left Main Artery. The patient’s heart was functioning at a drastically reduced capacity, only 20-25% ejection fraction, placing them in heart failure and cardiogenic shock.
Recognizing the extreme danger, the medical team, spearheaded by Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Kunwar Abhishek Arya, opted for an IVUS-guided Left Main Bifurcation Stenting. This procedure, known for its complexity and inherent risks, was performed successfully. The patient’s health began to improve significantly post-procedure, allowing for a remarkably quick discharge in just two days. At a three-month follow-up, the patient’s ejection fraction had improved substantially to approximately 40%, enabling them to resume their normal life.
Dr. Arya highlighted the critical role of prompt action, advanced medical technology, and the team’s proficiency. The hospital’s Facility Director, Dr. Nitish Kumar, commended the cardiology team for their successful management of this complex case, emphasizing that it showcases the hospital’s advanced capabilities and dedication to providing top-tier patient care.
