
Ranchi became the focal point for the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Eastern Region Convocation on December 7, 2025. Held at the Gangotri Convention Center, the event was graced by Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, as the chief guest. This significant gathering saw 102 new company secretaries from the Eastern Region formally receive their membership. Minister Seth congratulated the graduating class, emphasizing that company secretaries are key to strengthening governance and compliance, which is crucial for fueling India’s economic growth driven by startups. He stated their contribution would be paramount in achieving the nation’s vision for a developed India by 2047. CS Dhananjay Shukla, President of ICSI, addressed the attendees, highlighting the institute’s commitment to enhancing governance through various progressive measures. He expressed his belief that these measures would empower the new professionals to play a pivotal role in India’s development journey. Shukla also shed light on significant welfare schemes, including fee concessions for individuals from the Indian Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, Agniveers, families of martyrs, and students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He further detailed several new academic and professional initiatives by ICSI. These include an MBA program in Maritime Regulation & Compliance Management with Gujarat Maritime University, a joint certificate course with NISM on Corporate & Securities Market Compliance, and a certificate course focused on UAE Business Managers. The institute also launched ICSI Guiding Principles on Stewardship and Principles on Climate Change Governance, alongside an ESG Stakeholder Engagement Toolkit. CS Pawan Ji Chandak, Vice President of ICSI, motivated the new members to capitalize on the opportunities and fulfill their responsibilities towards the profession and ICSI, which is recognized globally as a leader in promoting good governance. ICSI Council Member, CS Rupanajana De, and ICSI EIRC Chairman, CS Anuj Saraswat, were also in attendance.
