A government primary school in the Tangratoli Basti area of Ranchi, Jharkhand, experienced a partial collapse on Friday morning. The incident, which occurred in the Sukhdev Nagar police station area, led to the death of one individual, Suresh Baitha, who was fatally injured when the structure gave way. Three other people were also injured in the collapse and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The collapse took place early in the morning. Emergency responders and local residents worked quickly to provide aid and transport the injured to a nearby hospital. The injured have been identified as Rohit Tirkey, Pritam, and Nitin Tirkey. Information indicates that their conditions are serious. One of the injured has suffered a fractured waist, while another has a broken leg.
Following the collapse, local residents expressed their outrage by taking to the streets and placing the deceased’s body on the road. Their demands include the immediate demolition of the dilapidated school building to prevent any future tragedies and the provision of adequate compensation for the victims and their families.
Local sources indicate that the school building was condemned and closed to students during the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately four to five years ago. However, residents continued to use the building for shelter and rest, and some individuals even slept there overnight. The villagers are requesting that the family of the deceased receive immediate compensation and that the dilapidated school building be completely demolished to prevent any further loss of life.
