Due to safety reasons, the Jeetpur coal mine, operational for 109 years in Dhanbad, has been completely shut down by SAIL management. A notice regarding the closure was issued by General Manager Manish Kumar. Although the mine operations ceased on April 23, 2024, essential services continued until Tuesday. The shut down has been directly caused by water infiltration from Tata Steel’s Jamadoba 6/7 pits and 2 pits collieries, which are currently closed. Following the directions from DGMS and SINFAR, SAIL’s directorate decided not to send workers to the Jeetpur Colliery from April 23rd, 2024. The closure of the mine will result in the transfer of its 145 employees. The closure of the mine will affect local communities including Nonikdih, Jeetpur, and the Jamadoba market. The Jeetpur Colliery has a long history of producing high-quality steel-grade coal.
