Jharkhand is set to witness a significant change in its healthcare landscape as the proposed RIMS-2 hospital will now be named after Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister, as announced by Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari. Addressing the media at the Jharkhand Assembly, Dr. Ansari revealed that the medical institute in Ranchi’s Nagri Mouza will be called the ‘Shibu Soren Institute of Medical Sciences’ (SSIMS). The minister emphasized the hospital’s significance, positioning it as a tribute to Shibu Soren’s dedication to the underprivileged and his impact on the state. The planned hospital is poised to become the largest in Asia. The institute will provide modern healthcare services, including super-specialty wards and advanced research facilities. It will prioritize free and affordable medical care for the poor and marginalized, ensuring access to healthcare for all. The SSIMS aims to generate employment opportunities and provide training in the medical field for Jharkhand’s youth. Dr. Ansari underscored that the establishment represents a ‘health revolution’ for the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to high-quality healthcare for all residents. The project, intended to be a super-specialty hospital spanning over 200 acres, has previously faced challenges. The announcement comes amid discussions and debates over the land allocation and construction of RIMS-2, and while the former Chief Minister Champai Soren was under house arrest due to farmers’ support activities, highlighting the ongoing issues within the state assembly.
