As the Shravani Mela draws near, the fervor of devotees intensifies. The Deoghar district administration is meticulously preparing to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. The air will soon be filled with the chants of ‘Bol Bam,’ as devotees embark on their arduous journeys. However, a lesser-known group of devotees, the ‘Dak Bam,’ undertake a unique challenge: completing a 105 km trek in just 24 hours. This article explores the Dak Bam and their extraordinary commitment.
Understanding the Dak Bam
The term ‘Dak Bam’ refers to Kanwariyas who complete the 105 km trek from Sultanganj to Deoghar within 24 hours without any breaks during the Kanwar Yatra. This journey is considered extremely challenging, demanding continuous walking or running without rest. It requires immense physical endurance and unwavering determination. This tradition is notably prevalent in Purvanchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Special Provisions for Dak Bam
Dak Bam Kanwariyas are granted specific privileges at Baba Dham. They have a separate queue for Jalabhishek and are given priority in performing the ritual. Other devotees make way for them to ensure they can reach the Shivling without interruption. Any stoppage during their journey renders it incomplete.
