Four female students at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Bangurda, Jamshedpur, were hospitalized after being forced to perform 200 sit-ups as punishment. The incident happened on Monday when the students were late returning from a Shiv temple visit. A teacher imposed the physical exercise, which caused four students to fall ill. The students, identified as Priyanka Mahato, Ashtami Mahato, Dayavati Pramanik, and Purnima Mahato, were immediately taken to Macha CHC, and subsequently referred to MGM Hospital in Dimna. Local authorities, including MLA Mangal Kalindi, and former BJP leader Vimal Baitha, visited the hospital to assess the situation. Baitha condemned the punishment, pointing out the severity of the exercise performed shortly after breakfast, which, he said, led to a decrease in the girls’ oxygen levels. He called for appropriate action against the school authorities, stating that the punishment was inhumane.
