
An incident of suicide by a BSF jawan, Rahul Manjhi, inside the Murhu police station in Khunti district, Jharkhand, has triggered a high-level investigation. The jawan was in custody after being accused of harassment. Senior officials, including SP Manish Toppo and DSP Varun Rajak, rushed to the police station upon receiving the news. The police station’s officer in charge, Ramdev Yadav, has been suspended as a result of the events. Manjhi, who was based in Siliguri, was on leave and had not yet rejoined his unit. The incident unfolded after a young woman accused him of harassment, and he was apprehended by villagers. The police took him into custody, and he was subsequently locked up in the police station. He was later found to have taken his own life by hanging himself using an electrical wire from a ventilator within the station bathroom.
