In Ranchi, Jharkhand, a man named Firoz Ali died by suicide shortly after being granted bail in a case involving the harassment of a schoolgirl. The incident occurred near Upper Bazaar, under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. Ali had been in jail for approximately eight months before his release. The arrest followed the viral spread of a video depicting Ali’s alleged harassment of a minor schoolgirl. Chief Minister Hemant Soren intervened, ordering the police to take action. Subsequently, the police arrested Ali and paraded him through the streets. After being released on bail, Ali was found dead by suicide on Saturday evening at his home on Nala Road in the Hindpirhi area. He was rushed to RIMS Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
While the specific reasons for the suicide remain unclear, it is presumed that Ali was under significant stress due to the accusations against him. The harassment incident occurred on November 13, 2024. Ali, who was on a scooter, allegedly harassed a schoolgirl. The actions were captured on CCTV. The video quickly circulated online, which prompted the Chief Minister to take notice and direct the police to act. The police identified Ali and arrested him. He was then sent to jail and was later released on bail. His death has raised serious questions about the case.
