The spirit of Jharkhand’s rich heritage was on full display in Ranchi during the ‘Thahre Sohrai’ festival, a significant celebration observed after Kartik Amavasya. This joyous occasion serves as a symbol of thanksgiving for the agricultural harvest and the invaluable contribution of livestock. Organized by the ‘Brihad Jharkhand Sanskriti Kala Manch’, the event saw a massive congregation of culture enthusiasts at Morabadi Maidan, representing the diverse tribal, indigenous, and social fabric of the state.
A spirited procession commenced from Morabadi Maidan, with attendees showcasing their cultural pride through song and dance. The procession traversed key city landmarks, including SSP Chowk, Redium Road, and Kachahari Chowk, before reaching its destination at Jaipal Singh Stadium. Devendranath Mahto, Vice President of the ‘Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha’, actively participated in the Sohrai procession, highlighting the festival’s widespread significance.
The inauguration of the Akhada exhibition at Jaipal Singh Stadium was marked by a respectful tribute to Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda, with his statue being adorned with garlands. The large-scale procession led to significant traffic challenges, which were managed by the diligent efforts of the traffic police. The stadium’s Sohrai Akhada became a vibrant hub of cultural activity, filled with joyful singing and dancing. Women played a crucial role in preserving and showcasing traditional customs and music, while local artists enthralled the audience with spectacular performances.
