A day of leisure turned tragic at Dimna Lake when 21-year-old Krishna Rana, a resident of Giridih, drowned on Wednesday afternoon. He was accompanied by nine friends during the outing. The incident occurred while swimming in the lake; Rana sank beneath the surface and could not be saved.
It’s understood that approximately nine young carpenters had visited Dimna Lake. Six of them entered the water for a swim. While in the water, Krishna Rana, who entered last, unexpectedly struggled and began drowning in the deeper section of the lake. His friends attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful and had to come out of the water.
Despite immediate notification, the police response was delayed, focusing on initial inquiries rather than a swift rescue. The young man’s body was eventually recovered by fishermen.
Local residents pointed out that such drownings are not new to Dimna Lake. While there have been previous incidents, the area remains without lifeguard services or warning signs. They believe the implementation of safety measures could prevent future tragedies.
