The Karnataka government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has announced a new caste survey. This undertaking comes as a result of discussions with the Congress leadership in Delhi, where the necessity of revisiting the caste census was acknowledged. The survey, targeted for completion within 90 days, will address observations made by various stakeholders regarding existing data. The last enumeration occurred in 2015-16. The discussions also encompassed the Bengaluru stampede, where the Chief Minister informed the leadership about the actions taken by the government. Measures such as judicial inquiries and staff suspensions have been initiated. Siddaramaiah stressed the importance of preventing the politicization of the tragic incident, referencing the earlier Kumbh Mela event.
