
In a concerning trend, cybercriminals are escalating their activities, now targeting prominent figures such as the Karnataka Governor. Thawar Chand Gehlot was recently subjected to a fraud attempt where the perpetrators impersonated Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The call, which aimed to deceive, was traced back to a fake phone number, prompting an official complaint and an FIR at the Central Cyber Police Station. The police are actively investigating the matter.
The incident involved a call received by the Governor on Saturday. The caller, posing as Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, sought assistance. The Governor’s vigilance led to an inquiry that exposed the fraudulent nature of the call.
Initial investigations suggest that the call originated from Kolkata. The authorities are working to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for the cybercrime.
