As part of its environmental initiatives, the Karnataka government will prohibit the use of all forms of plastic within the temples overseen by the Religious Endowment (Muzrai) Department, starting August 15. This announcement, made by Revenue Minister and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy, underscores the state’s commitment to cleanliness and environmental stewardship in places of worship. The ban will affect all temples under the Muzrai Department’s control, with strict enforcement measures in place, including fines and possible criminal action for those who violate the rule. Simultaneously, August 15 will be observed as a Dry Day in Karnataka, restricting alcohol sales for two days due to the Janmashtami festival. Authorities are also preparing for potential public events to maintain order and safety.
