The Kerala High Court has directed an SIT investigation into the alleged weight loss of gold plating on the guardian deity idols in Sabarimala Temple. The incident involves the gold-plated copper plates which were sent to a Chennai company for electroplating in 2019. Upon return, a weight difference was noticed, prompting the High Court to intervene and order a special investigation. The SIT will be responsible for investigating the cause of the reduced weight and the circumstances around it. The court initially tasked the TDB vigilance team with the initial investigation. The investigation’s costs were covered by businessman Unnikrishnan Potty.
