Amidst ongoing unrest in Ladakh, activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested by Leh police on Friday, September 26. The arrest follows the violent incidents that resulted in four deaths. The charges against Wangchuk relate to financial irregularities, with investigations focusing on the misuse of foreign funding and discrepancies within his NGO and private institutions. The government is looking into claims that Wangchuk utilized a mass movement to contravene regulations and misappropriate funds. The Apex Body Leh, organizing the statehood protests, has stated that their demonstrations are peaceful and distanced themselves from the violence of September 24, attributing it to a segment of uncontrolled youth.
