In Madhya Pradesh, a new debate has arisen, merging political maneuvering with cultural considerations. The state government is set to launch a campaign to reinterpret a popular mythological concept of Hinduism. This time, the controversy is about the image of Lord Krishna as ‘makhanchor,’ which the government now wants to change. The government believes that the childhood activities of Shri Krishna were not acts of theft but symbolic acts of resistance against injustice.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has framed this campaign as a cultural correction, claiming that the ‘leelas’ of Shri Krishna have been misrepresented. The Congress has strongly criticized this move, alleging that the government is manipulating mythological narratives for political gain. Congress leader Umang Singar accused the government of misrepresenting mythology for political motives, questioning the CM’s authority.
The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing a campaign to encourage people to stop using the term ‘makhanchor’ for Lord Krishna. The government maintains that his childhood deeds were not theft, but protests against injustice. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that it was a protest against Kansa’s policies, and Shri Krishna never took the butter for himself, but as a symbolic act. The campaign is being managed by the state’s culture department. Cultural advisor Shriram Tiwai stated that the public would be informed on this topic, and the word ‘makhanchor’ will be removed.
