The Maharashtra state cabinet has decided to roll back two Government Resolutions (GRs) related to the implementation of the three-language policy, in the face of escalating opposition to the introduction of Hindi in schools from classes 1 to 5. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement during a media briefing in Mumbai. He also revealed the formation of a committee, headed by educationist Dr. Narendra Jadhav, to suggest ways to implement the language policy. Fadnavis stated that the previous government, under Uddhav Thackeray, had supported the recommendations of the Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar committee, which included the introduction of a three-language policy from class 1 to 12. The initial GRs issued by the Fadnavis-led government in April made Hindi compulsory, which was later amended in June to make it optional, owing to strong opposition.
