The Maharashtra government is advancing its commitment to green mobility by approving the installation of eight EV charging stations on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will be responsible for the project, starting with a location survey. The charging stations are planned to have the capacity to serve multiple EVs simultaneously. Maharashtra is a prominent EV market, with more than 5.58 lakh EVs registered, according to the Vahan portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The Pune-Mumbai Expressway, carrying around 1.4 lakh vehicles daily, will benefit from improved charging infrastructure. The state government’s strategy to encourage the use of EVs also includes toll exemptions on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu. This effort is designed to promote cleaner transportation and contribute to the goal of carbon-neutral highways. Despite these positive steps, there are reports of issues with the functionality of existing charging points, which are a concern for EV users.
