
A disturbing gang-rape incident involving an Odisha-based MBBS student in Durgapur, West Bengal, has led to the arrest of three individuals. The 23-year-old victim was allegedly attacked near her medical college, sparking a swift response from law enforcement. Legal charges, including gang-rape and acting with common intention, have been pressed against the apprehended suspects.
The assault took place on Friday evening, according to police reports. The student, enrolled at IQ City Medical College in Durgapur, had gone out for dinner with a friend. The group of assailants allegedly accosted them near the college gate, forcibly separated the woman, and took her to a secluded wooded section where the crime occurred. The attackers then fled the vicinity. The identities of the arrested individuals have not been released by the authorities.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the grave offense and has written to the state police chief, demanding immediate arrests, a thorough investigation, and assured support for the survivor. The NCW plans to send a delegation to Durgapur to assess the situation firsthand and gather a report on the police’s response within five days.
West Bengal Police have assured that the victim is safe and receiving care, and her family is being provided with all necessary assistance. They have also issued a warning against the circulation of speculative information. The police have reinforced their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy and promised rigorous action against those responsible for this heinous crime.
