As the Winter Session of Parliament got underway, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, extending a warm reception to CP Radhakrishnan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. PM Modi commended Radhakrishnan’s life of dedicated social service and his roots in a farming family, highlighting his strong rapport with tribal communities and his down-to-earth approach that bypasses ceremonial formalities. He expressed his belief that the Upper House would flourish under Radhakrishnan’s experienced leadership and commitment to public welfare.
Speaking to the media prior to the session, Prime Minister Modi urged political parties to move beyond electoral defeats and focus on constructive dialogue within Parliament. He criticized the opposition for what he termed as turning the house into a ‘warm-up arena’ for elections or a platform for expressing frustration. Modi called for a session dedicated to strengthening the nation’s development agenda, drawing inspiration from the high voter turnout, especially among women. He asserted that Parliament should prioritize delivering for the country and not descend into theatrical displays. Furthermore, the Prime Minister advocated for greater inclusivity, encouraging that first-time and young MPs be given ample opportunities to raise important constituency and national matters.
