The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for the Delhi-NCR region, impacting areas like Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, due to ongoing monsoon activity in North India. The weather forecast for Delhi anticipates heavy rainfall for the day.
Gurugram is experiencing severe disruption due to torrential rains, with extensive waterlogging on roads and a substantial traffic jam that stretches for several kilometers. An orange alert has been declared by the District Disaster Management Authority, prompting the recommendation to close schools, colleges, and offices and implement work-from-home policies.
Noida and Ghaziabad are also seeing heavy rainfall today. The weather warning from the department has been extended to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where a red alert has been issued due to the potential for exceptionally heavy rain and flash floods. Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are currently under an orange alert. Schools and offices in the affected areas may remain closed today due to the safety risks.
