Rajampet MP PV Mithun Reddy, a prominent leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday after being questioned for an extended period concerning the multi-crore liquor scam. Following the arrest, SIT officials informed Mr. Reddy’s family. The arrest was expected after the Supreme Court had previously rejected his anticipatory bail application on July 18. A total of 12 individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case so far.
The investigating agency’s allegations center on Mithun Reddy’s alleged pivotal role in the large-scale scam, where he, along with other suspects, is accused of misappropriating funds collected from distillery companies. On Saturday, he was questioned by the SIT for the second time. The questioning covered various points, including the establishment of new distillery businesses, commission collection from liquor traders, depositing the money into his companies, and his connections with co-accused individuals. Mr. Reddy responded by claiming that the case was politically motivated and that he was being wrongly implicated. He asserted his intention to fight the false accusations through legal channels. Earlier, Mr. Reddy had arrived in Vijayawada to appear before the SIT and provide his deposition regarding the case involving Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa, who were recently arrested. In response to the unfolding events, the YSRCP has accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of abusing his position and targeting leaders associated with party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
