The Mumbai Monorail experienced a major breakdown, leaving passengers stranded on an elevated track. The incident occurred between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park stations, causing significant disruption. The breakdown exposed operational challenges and raised concerns about the project’s resilience. The failure resulted from the sudden disruption of power due to heavy rainfall and the carrying of more passengers than the train’s capacity. The monorail, operational since February 2014, was intended to alleviate traffic and connect with other transport networks. It was built at a cost of approximately 3000 crore rupees. The route spans 19.54 kilometers, connecting Chembur to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Mahalaxmi) with 17 stations. The incident has prompted an investigation into the causes.
